Using Tc-99m pertechnetate scintigraphy to predict the outcome of sialoendoscopy in obstructive submaxillaritis.

چکیده
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to investigate whether the findings of Tc-99m pertechnetate salivary gland scintigraphy (SGS) can predict the outcome of sialoendoscopic intervention in patients with obstructive submaxillaritis. MATERIALS AND METHODS Eleven patients with obstructive submaxillaritis were prospectively recruited. All patients underwent sialoendoscopy. Tc-99m pertechnetate SGS was performed both before and after sialoendoscopy. RESULTS Sialoendoscopy was effective in the glands with tracer uptake (n = 9) demonstrated on SGS before the procedure, evidenced by not only relief of the symptoms but also improvement in excretion in post therapy salivary gland scintigraphy. In contrast, sialoendoscopy was ineffective in the glands without tracer uptake (n = 2) in pretherapy scans. CONCLUSIONS In patients with submaxillaritis, whether a sialoendoscopy should be performed depends on the results of salivary gland scintigraphy.

Delayed imaging for detection of Meckel's diverticulum in Tc-99m pertechnetate scintigraphy
Tc-99m pertechnetate scintigraphy is the modality of choice for diagnosis of Meckel's diverticulum. Interpretation of Meckel's scan identifies a focal area of radiopharmaceutical uptake in the anterior abdomen similar to normal gastric mucosa. The activity must be of the same pattern and intensity as gastric uptake. We present a 13-year-old patient with gastrointest...
متن کاملPercutaneous microwave ablation of thyroid nodules: efficacy evaluation with 99m Tc - pertechnetate and 99mTc-MIBI functional imaging
Background: Local ablative treatments play an important role for patients who cannot be treated surgically. Radiofrequency ablation is a well-established alternative to surgical treatment of thyroid nodules, however it also has disadvantages. Microwave ablation (MWA) is a new minimally invasive treatment promising several improvements. The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate the eff...
متن کاملIncidental thyroid uptake during 99mTc-methylene diphosphonate bone scintigraphy in oncologic patients
Introduction: Extraosseous accumulation of 99mTc – methylene diphosphonate (MDP) may be due to neoplastic, dystrophic, hormonal, inflammatory, ischemic, traumatic or excretory disorders. 99mTc-MDP incidental thyroid uptake is not frequent and is possibly caused by the presence of dystrophic or metastatic calcification, biopsy procedure and presence of beni...

Thyroid scintigraphy has been helpful in detecting and evaluation of thyroid nodules. Sodium pertechnetate Tc-99m is the most commonly used radionuclide for thyroid imaging because of its general availability, favorable dosimetric characteristics and low cost. But, there are reports of occasional disparity in isotope uptake in lesions compared with radioiodide. In order to determine percentage ...
متن کاملMultiple brown tumors in a patient with parathyroid adenoma depicting affinity for both 99mTc -pertechnetate and 99mTc-MIBI: Evaluation with hybrid SPECT/CT
Parathyroid adenoma involving a single parathyroid gland is the underlying cause of 80-85% of primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT). Skeletal system is significantly affected by PHPT. Brown tumors are known to have affinity for 99mTc-MIBI. We report a rare case of PHPT presenting with diffuse bony pain, high calcium level and significantly elevated alkaline phosphatase level. 99m<...
